I'm looking at getting a split-boom system primarily for use as a hedge-trimmer but I want the versatility of other attachments if the need arises. I'm happy with my Echo string trimmers and blowers, I'm also happy with my Stihl saws (not going to start THAT thread up again /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif).

So, I have the Echo PAS-230 and the Stihl KM-85R units in mind. The Stihl is a bit more expensive but I'm used to paying a bit more for the non-consumer (disposable) equipment. I've read through lawnsite.com and thought I'd see if anyone here has any thoughts on this issue.

Thanks.

I have a FS85R which allows use of the same attachment that KM-85R without the split shaft. I find the unit works very well. I have the HT pole saw attachment and the HL 90 degree hedge trimmer.
The Hedge trimmer is a problem if you plan on doing a lot of work with it.
It is heavy. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
If I had it to do again I would have purchased the FH attachment. It is made for trimming lawn. but will work for hedge trimming with a 12" cutting blade length.
