Speed Improvement is Excellent!

I saw your post in Site News about the speed tweak you made. I am at work at the moment on cable modem, but I can tell you that even on cable, I noticed an immediate improvement in overall responsiveness of the board. When I create a message, preview and post, the screens all load in one second (what I expect on cable). It was taking 3-30 seconds for these posts.

I will access from home on my rusty old 56K modem, and see if it is better. I await word from Bird, who seems to have had the worst problem of anyone. I think this will ehlp. Thanks a bunch.

Just a quick follow up here. I went home on my 56K modem, and my initial experience is that the overall speed for me is about 50% faster. Now all I am doing is hoping that Chief Bird reports some improvement.

Glad to hear that the change made some difference.

After 27 busy signals, I finally got my trusty, old P90 with enough juice to run internet explorer 3.0 and a calculator, and with a 28.8 modem, of course, to jump on. And, the speed is surprising me - loading much faster than before, just have to test posting.

Bob, sounds like we have similar work schedules, can't unglue from the cable modem? /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

OK BobT and Muhammad, ya'll 've got me convinced the problem is on this end, or at least somewhere between my mouse and New York./w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif After the last changes yesterday, my speed did seem to improve, but I decided to wait before posting a reply to see what it was like at different times.

Now this morning, you just wouldn't believe how fast it pops from screen to screen; 1 to 3 seconds, sometimes even less. (I didn't figure there would be many people on the Internet this early on Easter morning).

BobT, I just now downloaded the TweakDUN; haven't done anything but download it yet, but I'll do some checking into it and see if it helps. And how'd I get the "Chief" title? Captain was as far as I went, and I abandoned that title 11 years ago./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Well that's good news! The overall traffic of the internet will affect your speed, also how many people are on this site will affect the speed a little. (Usually around 4:00 PM EST is is quiet in here.)

Oh, our servers are in Seattle, WA, not here in NY, so if there's a problem, it's the other way. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif But I think BobT has belped you get your system 'tweaked' pretty well, so the speeds you're getting sound about right - what they should be.

I logged off the Internet and went outside for a few minutes, came back in, logged back on, promptly pulled up a couple of other sites, then clicked on tractorbynet on my bookmarks, waited 60 seconds for the top banner and "website found, waiting for reply", then waited 123 seconds for the "main index", clicked on feedback & more, waited 32 seconds . . .. Verrry puzzling./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

Last night was the fastest its ever been--First thing this morning was fast also--a couple hours later verrrrrry slow again---now its seems to have quickened up again--When this board loads slow other websites load fast--so I don't believe it's related just to web traffic--Keep up the good work you will figure this thing out--Thanks Gordon

I do believe that the speed problem is fixed nothing is being posted about it that I can see. So no news is good news I guess. But I will say this you guys have done a great job on this new formatt and Thank you for all your hard work.
