I see the NWS has us in the mid-teens by this weekend, with the possibility of wintry mix Thursday-ish. I've live here, north of Lake Pontchartrain. for 17 years & this is our coldest winter by far. I think the winter of 1989 was the last time we approached these temps.

My woodstove is really nice - - just hope I don't run out of wood.

I live in a raised house so I'll be running water these next few nights.

Stay warm!

Global warming!!! Woo Hoo!!!

Glad you have a stove. Never been to La...but I'm guessing you are the envy of the neighbors.

And I bet Gore is somewhere on a tropical Island with his head in the sand and is missing all of this.

Yes, that was a memorable Winter. On December 23, 1989, we had -1 F that morning. 18 this morning, with 12 and 13 forecast for Thursday and Friday.

I hope Al Gore trips over a space heater.

Gosh this morning it was 13 F here and I was thinking "Darn it is warming up"

I guess when you get cold down there we get some warmth up here, but the cold cold is on the way for us too.

Up here it's the norm to be 0 or below, I feel for you folks down there. GMA did say this will be the worst cold blast in 20yrs especially for the south. I don't mind the cold, what I hate is the wind. We have had a few days now hanging around zero but with the wind hitting 20-40MPH it sure takes the breathe away.

We can solve all these heating problems associated with the widespread frigid weather. All we need to do is drill down into the ground a couple of miles. I have it on "good authority" that the temperature down there is several million degrees F.
That should warm things up PDQ, don'tcha' think?;)

Wayne, 13 degrees will mess things up around here pretty well. We a just not set up for it. On the other hand, folks who live up on the tundra [for me, that's anyone who lives above Bunkie, La.] are not set up to cope with hot weather.

My daughter lives in downtown Calgary & has no air conditioning. We've talked before when her temp was in the 90's & it was pretty uncomfortable in her 6th floor apartment. And we've visited relatives in New York before who had no AC. Bottom line, most people down here are not prepared to cope with low temps in the 20's & below for several nights in a row. I'm lucky to have a woodstove, but I'm sure I'll run out of firewood this winter. The wood I split last year is just about gone - - the rest was cut last summer & split in October.

Looking forward to spring!

Jack I do feel for you and the gang down there dealing with cold weather and as you mentioned we are not prepared for warm weather in the summer. We do get one or two days above 90 and they can raise heck with us.

Keep warm and take it easy on the wood burning small fires and put on sweaters......... 20 20 lives in the Adirondacks and he knows cold for sure. I grew-up up there and in January most of the days were near or below zero. We always thought it was okay, guess we didn't know any better. We still have a place up there but only use it three seasons each year.

I envy you guys. We've had lots of rain and only a dusting of snow. Temps aren't so bad but every time there is any serious precipitation, it's rain.

The unfortunate by-product of all this cold is terrible Kubota neglect. I fired it up about a week ago just to turn over the compost pile - - but then it was a balmy 50 degrees. I see why you guys want cabs!
