While getting ready for work this morning I was listening to the local ag show on the radio and they were talking about the growth of a new industry, making diesel fuel from soy beans. "Soy diesel" according to the show's guest has better lubricating properties, lower emissions, and the same power return as petroleum diesel. Currently they have distributors in Phoenix, St Louis, parts of California and several distributors on the east coast.

Has anyone else heard about or know anything about "soy diesel"?

Yeah, PitBull, I've heard of it, and read just a tiny bit. Go to http://www.google.com and enter "soy diesel" in the search. I only got 8,350 hits./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

I had the opportunity to be an indirect party to some trials of Bio-Diesel, I was local government staff person supporting a regional transportation board. About 4 years ago Alexandria (VA) tranist gave Bio-Diesel a try, worked great, no engine, injector or pump problems, and the exhaust had a sweet smell. About the only downside was that the bio-diesel had a cleansing effect on the fuel system. They experineced loss of power and found fuel filters clogged. After several filter changes, everything was Okay. If it was ready available, I would use it without a second thought.
