solinoid activated front remote not working HELP needed

After recently purchaseing a grapple bucket for my 3140 JD I seem to have run into a few problems Firstly I had to chane the attachment lugs to fit my loader then found the hydraulic quick connect couplings didnt match having sorted that out I hooked it all up and all I get is a weak click from the solinoid and nothing.I pulled it off today but I'm not really sure about stripping it down as it isnt too keen to come apart.


I managed to unscrew the black knob off the end after spraying with WD40 and useing a large pipe wrench the shaft looked pretty rusty so I hit it with more wd40 and a wire brush and tried to pry the solinoid off the valve block without sucess not really sure where to go next.

Can someone point me in the right direction please.

It turns out the solinoid screws on to the valve body the good news is the valve body is ok but the solinoid is seized will try to freeit up in the morning any helpfull sugestions would be welcome

Some solenoid valves have a manual operation. Have you tried the manual operation of the solenoid yet.

Push in the pin in the center of the solenoid and see if the valve will operate.

You might have some debris in the valve causing no or sluggish operation.

I ended up buying a new valve as the one on the tractor was some odd ball swedish brand that I couldn't get spares for. Hooked up the new one dam thing didn't work properly, all the ports were orrientated differently from the origional and was going to need to replace 4 of the 6 hoses and fabricate a new mount to use it .I pulled it all off again and found the solinoid coil and actuator assembly could be interchanged between valved reinstalled the old valve with new solinoid it kind of worked a bit .

Lots of head sctatching and a fair bit of cussing followed eventually it was pulled apart again and measured the actuator rods they were slightly different designs and one was 5/16' longer ( by this time I had enlisted a mate who is a CAT mechanic in the city who very kindly gave up his Sunday to come up help me out) we ended up taking lots of measurements with both of us arriving at different lenghts .

I decieded to make a new one out of a 5mm Allen key I cut it 1/16 longer then our longest calculated lenght tried it again by trial & error shortened it 20thou at a time till it worked.

Then remounted it all up with guards in place and the dam thing worked for a couple of minutes then quit then worked intermitantly before quitting alltogeather.I was starting to get really cheesed off with it by this point turned out there was a wireing problem some where in the loom so ripped it all out and replaced it all (figgered it would be quicker than trouble shooting and repairing the fault).

That done I am pleased to report it now works like a charm and on a decent sized tractor the grapple bucket is terrific built a couple of 50' x12' windrows 10' high in a couple of hours would have taken at least a week with out it.
