Solid Backhoe for $35K possible?

   / Solid Backhoe for $35K possible? #11
My buddy bought a JCB and the hydraulic pump went out shortly afterward. A service manual cost crazy money but he was able to fix it. He likes it and uses it on his farm. He repaired it himself but said it was a pretty involved job. Stuff fails so you might see what a repair manual costs if you're interested in one.
My 580K original binder manual was almost 200$ and i think he had to pay about 3X's that. When I lived in Scoland that's all you would see was JCB's....British made.

Don't know a darn thing about JCB's but that 212 is sharp - love the 4 wheel steer and side shift!!!

Hope that helps.

Greg, that is an awesome response....thanks so much! That's really helpful stuff and I may actually put together sort of a checklist before I start looking at machines, and use your reply as a guide to get me started. There's a machine not too far from me that I may try to take a look at soon...a bit more than my planned budget, but seems to meet the requirements.

The dealer says 3,850 hours:

I've always heard you can check out government auctions or sales and pickup used equipment for pretty cheap. They'll mostly have high hours but should be well maintained since they spent your money maintaining them! Just something to consider.

I've come across two that you might be interested in. One is a Komotsu with cab and heat and just under 3,000 hours and the other is a NH B95B one owner with cab and only 1800 hours. It's only 2wd but looks very very clean. It is also right under your budget. Oh and the NH has the extendahoe and the Komotsu has a thumb.

Are they listed online anywhere?

Well I just saw them in my tractorhouse magazine. They should be online on their website, I'll see if I can find them.

I see this thread is a "little old" but I've just purchased a JCB 210S, almost similar to Greg's.
Greg has also helped me with his knowledge and I look forward to talking with him again.

Nice! I'm still looking, but I may bump my budget just a touch. I've seen some very nice machines that fit my criteria for right around $40K, and they were quite a bit cleaner (mostly in the cab and engine compartment). I was set to start negotiating on a couple, and then spent $8k of my backhoe fund on my barn project :-0
