I'm thinking of buying a used snowmobile.

I've found alot of used sleds via the internet, but they are, of course, all over the country (well....not too many in the south).

There are some good deals up in Canada, which is not too far from me (Central NY).

I'm not too knowledgable about sleds.

Does anyone know if there are differences between Canadian and US sleds? In other words, if I bought a sled in Canada, can I just bring it into the US? I'm thinking in terms of emissions or things like that.

Thanks

The only thing I know about snowmobiles is that a lot of people around here buy them, only to discover ther's no place locally to ride them. Well, it's not that there's really NO place. They soon discover they can ride them by trespassing on the farmer's field behind my place at all hours of the night, going around in circles - rrrrrRRRRRrrrrrrrrRRRRRRrrrrrrrrRRRRrrrrr.....chim

I've got alot of room to ride around here; many trails, many open areas, my own land.

I have, however, seen many houses in subdivisions and developments with snowmobiles, atv's, etc.; don't know where they ride unless they truck them somewhere.

I was snowblowing the driveway down by the road one night last winter during a nice heavy snowstorm; saw an odd looking bright light coming up the road. Didn't look like a car, but could not figure out what it was. I pulled up onto the driveway like I always do when someone's driving by and a snowmobile wizzed by...

Nothing that I've ever seen as far as the way they are built. There are plenty of sleds available locally in central NY even our local club WASTA has a web site and there are normally sleds on there for sale. I was looking at used four wheel drive trucks the other day in the paper, what a difference a month or two closer to their season of need makes in the pricing!

Art;

Thanks for the reply; can you give me the WASTA web address?

I've tried looking local and there's not too much in the papers; there are come local dealers with some stuff on line.

My preference would be to buy local.

Thanks

Art - I looked at your profile after I typed this to see where you are located; I buy my tractor supplies from you! I'm down in Pompey; purchased by tractor from DeVeau as they were the closest, but they went belly up a few months after I bought it.
