Snowblower Snowblower Width for 4720

I have on order a <font color="green">John Deere 4270</font> with R1 tires. My dealer has in stock (left over from last year) a meteor 67" (or is it 68?) snowblower. I'm thinking that's going to be a little narrow for me. The brochure shows the 4720 to be 90 inches wide with the turf tires. Anybody know how wide it is with the R1s (dealer didn't off hand)?

I'm thinking I'll be frustrated if I get a blower that's narrower than my tires . . . leaving tracks and all. Any thoughts on that?

You definitely do not want a snowblower that is that much smaller than your tire track. Especially if you are running turfs. Your going to want to give your tires the best traction that you can and having that much snow on each side is not going to cut it. Hold out for a bigger snowblower, you'll be glad you did.

The track on the 4720 can be varied (with the 14.3x28 R1 wheels) over 8 positions from 51 to 75 inches wide. To that, add 1/2 the overall width of the 13.6x28 tires (14.3 inches) on each side - so your overall width is adjustable from 65.3 to 89.3 inches.

Most folks seem to start out lining up the rear tread with the front tread width (which *isn't* adjustable) at 55 inches. That gives you an overall width at the back end of just about 70 inches.

You'd want a 6-foot snow blower (or larger).

Ah, you people are wonderful.

68 inches is going to be just a tad too narrow . . . leaving an inch of tire traces on either side of the snowblower if the rear wheels are set at 70 inches.

Saving money on the snowblower isn't going to be much of a "deal" if I end up frustrated because I get stripes on my driveway every time I use it. Quite a bummer because I think $1400 is a pretty good buy on a snowblower that size.

You could always add some wings to it to make it fit the tire tracks.

Ideally, I'd like to get my hands on an 84" Puma. I've heard nothing but good about them on this forum and it's the right size and matches the HP of my tractor. Trouble is, no Puma dealer anywhere nearby.
