Snow plow on FEL

/ Snow plow on FEL #21
Overall, I think that having a snowplow mounted on the FEL is hard on the loader arms and hard on the front axle. For this coming winter I'm planning to remove the FEL and fabricate a plow-mounting system that attaches to the front frame section of the tractor instead. Basically pickup-truck mounts on the front of the tractor. I expect this setup to push snow better, while simultaneously being easier on the tractor.
I had a 5-footer on my little Ford 1210, and these comments are absolutely true. Your 2250 isn't that big, so be prepared for some frustration. 8" of heavy wet stuff will be very difficult to handle. If you could fab an attachment like comment #2 above--see any such on a Ford 800, 801, 2000--- and you will be much happier.

I have an old Meyer plow I converted to SSQA and use it on my tractor. Works great. The heavier the tractor the better it will plow. Mine is setup with a chain lift which allows the plow to float independently from the loader. View attachment 750681
Similar to BoylermanCT, my old half-ton plow is mounted with two receivers on the bottom of the bucket (just two pins to secure). These receivers allow the plow to move up and down considerably. Then a chain is used to allow the plow to hang with just the weight of the plow when touching the ground. This prevents the additional down pressure of the loader arms. I tried securing the plow with a solid link instead of the chain and the down pressure is way too high.

I run a dozer blade on my FEL, you're right it doesn't float as nicely as a plow with it's own float function. But it works ok until I get a hard enough base to use the inverted blower.

I have used a Meyer ST90 plow attached to the loader on my L3010 and like others have said it was easily pushed around by the blade because of the "lever" effect of having the blade so far forward.

After trying that for a couple of frustrating years I added a fixed mount to the tractor and used the loader valve to control the plow. When I eventually moved up to the L4060HSTC I upgraded the plow to a 9 footer.

For me there is no comparison with the direct attach plow being much easier to maneuver and better at moving snow. The only downside is having to remove the loader to attach the blade, but that is no big deal to me.

I built 2, one for my t250 bobcat and one for my LS 357, the tractor is way easier and more pleasant to use, the skid steer is too much power and weight, the plow blade wouldn't take it. You will want the 3rd function to be able to angle the blade. I helped a buddy put one on his Ford 1710, for a smaller tractor, 6ft of blade is about all you wantView attachment 750865

Can someone running a snow plow on their loader provide feedback on how well it works? I have an L2250 with FEL and am contemplating mounting a snow plow from my skid loader on it. The plow works great on the skid loader, but that's all I use it for. I'm thinking about selling the SL and fitting the plow to the tractor. Thoughts?
I don't use a plow because my research told me that a plow needs speed to do the job right and a snow pusher is ideal for a slower machine like a tractor.

Yup, go for it. Mine works great:

Built one last year for my neighbor - he luvs it and it is his primary snow removal device - minimal use of his blower except for paths thru the woods and across the field - it works very well.
Just started with making a quick attach bracket and kept going from there - used an old p/u truck plow as the basis of the finished product

I run a 7' SSQA plow on my Kubota L4060. It does not float, but there is an inch or two of slop that allows me to put the blade on the pavement without floating the fel arms. The only time I float the fel is when there is a large dip in the pavement.
Last season I put an UHMW Polyethylene edge on the plow, and I really like it. Cuts very well, doesn't scrape the pavement, and it's wearing very well.

I have one for mine. Saved me a ton of time over the rear blade for snow. I have a 3rd function so I got the one with hydraulic angle so it saves time adjusting the angle. The nice part about the FEL is you can use your tilt to adjust the angle of attack for different conditions and surfaces.
