Today the talking heads predicted a la Nina year with colder than normal weather and wetter than normal weather...possibly holding off till mid December. But since i got the new snow blower, i cant see how that can possible happen.
Looks like we might see some wet snow Thursday.... a bit of a preview.
As time marches on, I like the cold less & less, but I can live with that; I'm finding it's the shorter (& shorter, & shorter) days that really get to me!

It was freezing here this morning and the weather service is predicting some snow showers for this afternoon. The Missions have a lot of early snow so can winter be far off?(See picture)
Our ARPS Model 70 snow blower is all prepped and ready to go and all the tractors have fresh coolant. Itwill be the first time I've used a snow blower, so I'll learn a few things in the process.

My wife just mentioned to me that my quarter horse has the longest coat that she has ever seen on her in 16 years......that horse never puts on a winter coat. ohoh

Snow is in the higher elevations here too, and I'm still waiting for my snowblower which was supposed to be shipped from Ontario the week of October 10. We usually get the first snow around Oct 31 but it does not stay. The serious, permanent snow comes toward the end of November or mid December.

Sounds pretty ominous.
Native Americans are famous for accurate winter forecasts with one of their best indicators being the size of whitemens' woodpiles.
So.....how big is your woodpile?

I was at a ride at Pine Grove this weekend and had ice on my motorcycle when crawled out of my sleeping bag but 1/2 in to the ride I had to take one layer off and about 1 hr later 2nd came off it was work riding the trails in a big bike.

Well Saturday has greater potential for accumulation, but I'm trying to ignore it away, I'm not ready for snow yet, physically or mentally :laughing:
It's kinda crazy when you consider that even with the record snow we had last year, early winter, it didn't start til mid December :confused2:

Have two or three inches on the ground now and still snowing, had to brush off the DirecTV dish just to get reception. Suppose to go down to 22 F tonight, guess winters on It's way.

Posting this Friday night: Our second frost is expected Saturday night-Sunday morning.
It's here. We got about 4" overnight; most of what hit my newly-paved driveway melted, but... then refroze! My driveway's all ice now.
And then I see this NOAA warning/watch for Saturday night:
* LOCATIONS...THIS WATCH INCLUDES SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE AND YORK
COUNTY MAINE.
* HAZARD TYPES...HEAVY WET SNOW.
* ACCUMULATIONS...6 OR MORE INCHES OF SNOW ARE POSSIBLE...WITH 3
TO 6 INCHES THE MOST LIKELY SCENARIO AT THIS TIME...WITH LOCALLY
HIGHER AMOUNTS POSSIBLE.

Looks like you might get your wish, CTF...calling for 3-6 inches for south central (Harrisburg-Lancaster-York) on Saturday.
How much ya bet we get another blizzard...something like Feb 2010...this Winter?
Now it's 4 to 8 inches of wet snow...wonder if I should put the chains on?
Actually, it's supposed to be in the 40's on Sunday, so most should melt pretty quickly.
