I have an old yet very reliable walk behind, self propelled 26 Snapper. The problem is it idles very high, almost screams, when the blade is not engaged, but if I lower the idle, it’s —´ not enough juice for the blade to work properly. Also, it doesnt turn off unless I choke it out, and even then it takes a while. And there’s no difference between the turtle and bunny. I’m afraid the engine is about to go. One small engine repair guy said I need a new engine, that it’s not safe. Any advice on how to fix this? Is there anywhere I can replace the engine? They dont make these anymore. I’m stuck. I hate to get rid of such a loyal friend. Thanks.

Just sounds like a carburetor and/or a linkage problem to me.

I also moved your thread to the Parts/Repairs forum so hopefully you'll attract more replies with assistance VS being in the very specific Snapper forums. Let's see what happens. ;)
