For food plots, etc, I don't think you'll notice much difference between the types. I think you'll see a bigger difference in performance based on soil type and moisture between plots. If I were you, and had access to the old original wheels, I would be using them. Tried and true. I would also be sure to get a few replacements and store them for future use. I could use a few wheels, but haven't stumbled across any locally.

I think it will be fine. I add several solid cement blocks to my old cultipacker for extra weight, which helps too. It's really amazing the difference in germination when you use one. It doesn't look like it does much, but if there is any moisture in the ground, you'll get an instant start on germination compared to areas you don't roll. I usually double roll mine, in angled or perpendicular directions.
