Smokin\' DK 55

Seems to be smokin' a bit much. When I start the tracot rit fires right up and sounds o.k. Then it will struggle a bit to find idle, threatening to stall, and then it comes up to idle 1,000rpm. It will really smoke blue/white smoke during this warm up period until it is run for a bit. I never remember any of tractors doing thisd. Changed the fuel filter and drained all water from fuel tank. The tractor seems to run smoother but the smoke has not gotten any better. Any suggestions ?

Re: Smokin\' DK 55

Did you get any water out of the fuel tank? You might try adding some diesel fuel treatment to your tank and see if that helps out any. You may have a litte water in your system and its now allowing some of the cylinders to run correctly. Did the color of the smoke change when you replaced the fuel filter and drained the tank? How does your air filter look? Also have many hours on your tractor?

Re: Smokin\' DK 55

Yes all water is out. Cleaned air filter, and changed the fuel filter. No significant change. Thank you for the reply.

Check the fuel pump that is stationed before the fuel filter. It could have gunk in it.

Re: Smokin\' DK 55

It sounds like your glow plugs are not heating up to temp.
Try to manual heat them for 5-10 seconds after the light goes out. If you turn the key 2 clicks and watch the light go out then turn the key very slightly to the right you will here a little click and then start counting.
then depress the clutch and fire it up and see what that does.
If that is better, Than you may have a problem with a glow plug or even the relay.
If it is not any better we will try something else.

I will try the glow pluds in the a.m. A friend suggested perhaps the turbo is not behaving.I will keep you posted.

Re: Smokin\' DK 55

I guess I tried the glow plugs. There are no two clicks. I turn the key until indicator lights up on dash and then past it. The click sounds like it comes from the key/ ignition area. This did not help. Any other sugestions? Seems to me that if in fact the turbo was spent something else would be a muck. Any other way to check the glow plugs. I like this concept.

Re: Smokin\' DK 55

gmol, turn the key until you see the lights illuminate. After the glow plug goes out, turn just a fraction to the right, there may not be a click, just before ignition position. The glow plug light should come back on, or at least on mine it does. John

Re: Smokin\' DK 55

Seems my ignition has three? spots. accessory, glow , and on . The dash idiot light for glow plug does not reappear by further turning the key and pausing before start

Re: Smokin\' DK 55

The glow plug light will only turn back on in the CK20 models. In the DK series you can manually pre-heat by turning it to the glow position on the switch, but the light will not come back on. If you put it in the glow plug position then back to the normal pre-heat position you should hear a click, and will also hear a click if you then turn it back to the glow position..... if that makes sense.
