Smart phone or basic phone?

And for every 100 things you can think of using a smartphone for, someone else will think of 100 more. The Star Trek tricorder doesn't have a thing on a good smartphone. The telephone part is a very small part of what a smartphone is good for.

Each phone, smart or basic, has its limitations. Apps or phone service are limitations I discovered. Setting priorities and buying the right device took me out of the smart phone and into a basic phone for my circumstances. Which, wasn't easy.....I had some withdrawals for a few weeks.

Now I do have a PC, Galaxy tablet and an Ipad at home. Those, I would be lost without them.

And I can adjust the temperature in my refrigerator with mine - although I am wondering why I would that since I never adjusted the old one manually for over twenty years.
I only adjust mine a few times a year, hours before a heavy storm is approaching. I lower the temp to insure it can hold food longer in case of a power outage.

I went from a Note 4 to a Moto Z Force. I love the Moto Z Force, the battery goes 6 am to 10 PM easily, usually with more than 50% remaining after a day of non child like use. My kids can kill the battery in a few hours, but the phones are on constantly.

For me, I use it as a phone, texting, email, it is now the contact for the emergency response organization for our nuclear power plant, it allows me weather access and planning, calendar that I can share appointments to others with, phone book, camera, video camera, news and entertainment, Sirius XM radio, taking notes while working, web browsing, shopping on Amazon, tracking vehicle miles and fuel, poop time entertainment and more. I use Google Drive and scan purchase records/receipts to, backup all photos to it, save manuals and such to... My entire life of data is pretty much accessed through this phone. No, a flip phone will never touch my hands again.

The Motorola Moto Z /Z Force phone screens are essentially unbreakable. For real! When I first got the Moto Z Force I was at a bar drinking with my buddies, many of them carry shattered IPhones... I was telling them about the touted unbreakable screen on my phone and my buddy asked if he could try to break it. Hey.... we are drinking.... it sounds okay to me! So he slams it off of the wall (no case) as hard as he could, nope... He takes it outside and hulk slams it into the sidewalk.... Scratched/gouged the aluminum frame real good! Nope, not broke. We go back in and he takes a Coors Bottle and starts slamming the bottom of the bottle into the glass screen, you know how the bottle bottom has dimples of glass that extend outward in that outer raised ring? We got the screen to take a few impressions from them. Finally we decided to go all in and split the $150 Assurion insurance deductible and he went out and got a framing hammer. He beat the screen with a framing hammer, never did fracture it but it bowed inwards and shorted out the boards in the phone and that let the magic smoke out of it. We done killed it good for the sake of science and beer

2 days later I had a new replacement Moto Z and I carry it still today. It's been a year, I keep a slim case on it to prevent the aluminum frame from taking damage from drops. I keep a tempered glass screen cover on the phone because even though the screen can not be broken, it will take on micro scratches that look horrible. So I never worry about my phone screen. It is pretty much indestructible short of beating it with a hammer or shooting it with a firearm.

I love my smart phone. Like an earlier post... They will have pry my smart phone from my cold dead hand.

Now we know why the insurance is so expensive!

If I had decent cell phone coverage I might consider one.
While I am a mere 50 miles north of Montreal (Laurentians) cell coverage is spotty,
Foe me a basic cell does the job.
Shucks even the land line is more reliable.

I didn't want to add another line to USCellular (only service with coverage at my house), but I wanted a cell phone to use when I visited my son. I bought an unlocked phone and pay 13 dollars a month for PureTalk for just the phone connection. I use wifi connections if I want to browse the internet.
Cheapest solution I have found. I save 50-75 dollars a month doing it this way.

Oh basic 4 me!

Was free to boot and costs a mere $10./month with unused time accumulated as well.
Fortunately it also links to my car audio system so I am legal 'hands free' as long as I remember to turn on the phone. LOL.

Yep, they say drinking and firearms don't mix.....Looks like drinking and smartphones don't go together too well either.! Wow!

I was just at McCoys and the girl at the cash register uses her phone to watch what's going on inside and outside her house. She has teenagers and she knows if they sneak home from school, or have friends over, or pretty much whatever they are doing when they are there. I've thought about getting that for my house just to watch the front gate, who comes over, and what they do when they are around my house.

And unless they're angels or complete idiots they'll go to their friends house instead.
