The problem is, copper lines aren't copper lines in many cases. I still have a landline, and they are copper lines to the road at least. I've had more problems in the past few years with it than I had in all previous years combined. I think the problems with my landline started when Frontier "upgraded" some things and offered "high speed" internet. Call quality dropped, outages increased. Over the past couple years when there is a power outage either at my house or somewhere in the area, I lose internet and cable, and also landline service. Power is restored within minutes or a few hours normally, and internet and cable come back online within minutes of that usually. May landline remains out of service for hours, and for over 10 more hours on several occasions. My landline used to be my security blanket living in the sticks. Now I rely on my cell phone and internet which are both more reliable. I set my cell phone to use WIFI for calls, and can use it anywhere in my house including my basement.
