small tree cutter

Has anyone built a 3-4 inch tree cutter powered by PTO that a kubota 3130 would handle. What about revising a rotary mower to add a slot for the tree to enter and a saw blade? Gravely used to make a walk behind unit that would do but this is no longer available. Maybe someone knows of a pto tree saw unit that can be purchased. I do not want to go to a hydraulic unit because of cost of adding the auxiliary valves.Thanks, I have a lot of small trees that need to be cut.

Gravely used to make a walk behind unit that would do but this is no longer available..

I had one like this at the David Bradley site. It worked OK but only used it a couple times as a chain saw was faster because of more maneuverability. As you can see it was a pretty simple rig, run off the motor by a twisted belt over a couple idler pulleys. I should be easy to fabricate one to run off the PTO, maybe use a 90 degree drive rather than belt.
I wish I still had that old DB as it had many other attachments with it also including a front mount buzz saw, sickle bar and reel mowers, plow, disc and cultivator. I think I sold the whole shebang for about $20

I have been thinking of cutting a slot in an old brush hog and putting a big saw blade on it, I would also put some sort of push bar on it to put a little pressure on the tree as I am backing into it. It will be next winter before I am able to give any life to my idea though. The link above should give you some ideas.
