Mahindra 3215
Good afternoon all and I hope everyone had a great Turkey day! I messed up and let someone use my 3215 to move some sand and when I got it back today, it is VEEEERY sluggish in both forward and reverse when you let the clutch out. Here's what I've checked: it's not in Low range, it's not in 4 wheel drive, I've tried it in all 4 gears with the same effect. Before I loaned it out, I filled the transmission to the full mark. I'm not sure if I overfilled itor if that would make a difference and I'm not sure how to tell if they just burned up the clutch...I'm just not sure so, any guidance is greatly appreciated!!

No sir, parking break is off, I talked with the person I loaned it to and he said that he used it in Low the whole time they had it. I put it back in High range and it's just not right. It's almost as if the clutch isn't grabbing hold until it starts moving forward and even then, it takes a while to get up to speed. It won't budge if I have the wheels turned at all...it's as if the power isn't transferring from engine to transmission. Is it possible that over servicing the transmission could make this happen?

If my memory serves me correctly if one puts the transmission in a higher gear and then pushes with the front end loader against a fixed object, if the tractor stalls the clutch may be OK. If it doesn't the clutch could be slipping.
I let people use my tractor on two occasions that did not have tractor experience. Both times trouble when it came back, once the clutch.

Seems to me that if the clutch was slipping, there would be a smell? Is it a dry clutch or wet?

Good reason why I don't lend out any tool valued at over .50.

It is a dry clutch. How is your clutch pedal play? There should be about 1" of pedal play on the clutch pedal, before you start feeling resistance.

I appreciate everyones input...there is about an inch of play before the resistance starts in the pedal. It feels as if, when you start letting the clutch back out, it doesn't "grab hold" like it did before...I'm sure this is a no no however, I did engage the shuttle shift lever to the forward position for sh!ts and giggles to see if it would grind or anything...nothing, it went right into the forward position as if the clutch pedal was all the way down. There is no burnt clutch smell at all and you're right, never again will it be used by a "friend"...another crappy lesson learned. The person that used it had years of heavy equipment experience and he said he noticed it a little towards the end of when he had it. This is what leads me to believe that I may have put to much fluid in it. I used Traveller brand Premium universal tractor Trans/Hydraulic fluid. It says that it meets the Mahindra manufaturers specs. I have a really bad creeping sensation that I either put the wrong fluid in the wrong hole (I added it to the resevoir in between your feet on the transmission) or, I added too much or, my "friend" really did do something to it. If it's the first two that are screwed up at least my pride will be the only thing that gets hurt...

The fill point should be right below the front of the seat, right next to the dip stick.

hhmm...I added the fluid to the hole that is center line on the transmission, just in front of the seat. The dipstick in connected to the cap and the cap says "oil" on it.

That is where it goes. I changed mine about a year ago and used the Wal-mart brand. I have not had any problems.

whew!! I appreciate that. I was really starting to question my mechanical abilities (which aren't that bad I think)...I did just notice that when I tried to lower my 3 point hitch, the dial knob that's under, and in front of the seat was turned all the way closed...I didn't do this so, I opened it back up about 10 turns and the 3 point raises and lowers like it did before I lent the tractor out. I am just wondering if this had anthing to do with the symptoms. It's still taking a veeery long time to get up to speed. The engine isn't bogging down at all when I let the clutch out...it's just taking forever to get moving:mad::confused::(

That is the float control for the 3-point. That shouldn't have an effect on the tranny I would not think. Did you double check your fluid level?

You might recheck the free play of the clutch pedal which should be between 0.79 to 1.18 inch per the service manual. If that's OK, then the bad news is he most likely burned up your clutch. Of course not knowing the age of the tractor it also could be normal wear or even oil on the disc and just bad timing for problem to show up. Either way if its the clutch or related items then that going to cost.
One think what does the engine RPM's do when your trying to move forward, stay the same or does it increase?
Also double check your range selector to make sure the linkage is working correctly and it's not stuck in low range and the deferential lock is not engaged.

I appreciate everyones input on this, I truly do. I adjusted my clutch linkage just about as far as it could go. This corrected the issue. Unfortunately, that tells me that the fu**ing "experienced" heavy equipment operator that used it, road the **** out of the clutch and took it way down. The tractor has 127 hours on it so I'm pretty...no I'm REALLY not happy with this. So that being said...anyone have any good recommendations on where to get a new/used clutch for the best price? Also, the tractor came without a service manual and I understand that they are about $170 from the manufacture. I really am just looking for the service intervals and what all needs to be done at these intervals. Any and all guidance is greatly appreciated!!

My guess he may never have used low range and stayed in high and that forced it to slip and wear down. From what I see in the service manual changing the clutch out requires a major disassembly of the tractor and something I would think needs to be done by a dealer. Big bucks!
This is one reason I never loan out my tools or equipment as I've learned from past experience.

Same thing happened to me with the 6000 when it was new. I got 900 hours out of the clutch. It cost me about 1000$ for the clutch job. Once the clutch is hot it's pretty much done.
