My old internet provider people were trained to go into a long spiel about looking at my settings etc when I was having problems or that it was my modem, my computer etc

/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gifAre you using the same ISP I am?/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif They have the standard spiel: check the settings, it's your modem, your computer, or your phone lines (in my case the phone lines go through at least 3 different phone companies, and maybe more, just to get to my ISP).

Of course, there are other businesses or professions who also have standard speils, too. My wife has fussed at me for not going to a doctor for a complete physical in 9 years, but I already know the spiel; quit smoking, get more exercise (I'd like to see him follow me around), don't eat anything that tastes good, and if it hurts, take an aspirin. And 9 years ago, that profound diagnoses and advice only cost $1,800./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

Could you guys do me a favor and see how the TractorByNet.com Home Page loads right now? I know that the forum is still slow. /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif

(Workin' on it...)

Del; Here's my problem. I got some spare time (obviously [some]) and those lights, but…. I don't have anything to do right now with the tractor. Weather is nice and sunny, but the grass hasn't started growing yet. I think I'm going to have to find some more property /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif.

Muhammad; Just took me probably about 5 seconds at 28.8. Looking good (But… I was obviously lucky yesterday, just after I posted my last response, I too went into a time warp. Guess I just happened to issue request at the right time).

Muhammad, right now everything is running like the backhoe on my L35 th first day I used it, lightning fast. (at least for my 56K life!)

True lightning is when you are a 56K person and you sit down with an Ethernet connection, but I'll be happy with it as it is today! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Muhammad, this morning the forum seemed to be working fine (about 7:30 a.m. EST), but a few minutes ago it was very slow again. However, I've gone to the home page twice and it was very quick to load.

Oops, maybe I spoke too soon. Right after I said the forum was slow, I got disconnected and when I dialed in again, for the forum seems to be working just fine.

I appreciate the updates, Muhammad. Fortunately, it seems to be working pretty normally for me this evening.

Yeah, it's been a fast one minute, slow the next type of thing, for me anyway. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

The speed has been up and down for me most of the past few days (I'm on a T-1). The total posts are nearing 40,000 and the number of people accessing goes up to 75 or more simultaneous users. Muhammad redid the forum about a year ago, and it solved huge growth (and spped) problems back then. This thing just keeps getting bigger and bigger. Unfortunately, the "solutions" at this juncture are not likely in the vein of "tweaks" but more likely require substantial (and quite expensive) server and memory upgrades. Muhammad probably could have bought a new tractor (or two) from what this site costs him to operate.

Bob,
Totally agree on the cost to operate the site and the way that Muhammad responds immediately to our requests on a FREE site. That's why everyone that uses this site should support him by buying his book. Least we can do for all that this site provides us with.

Still very slow loading home page today here in MD on T1 line but not as slow as 3/28 when I gave up trying. Am not having problems with other sites I have checked today.

Notice the out/back times going through alternet are better today....

Yeah, the problem is not with the connection... those times are very fast, on both days. The problems are once you (or me, or anybody /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif) connect to the server.

Thanks, GlueGuy... Now that I have some IP address, let me probe to find out what service ports have been left open /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif.
