Too Loose will be a problem when you cut

Too tight will be a HUGE problem like Jerry said if you hit something where the clutch should slip and it doesn't.

I had to hunt down instructions on how to adjust the slip clutch. The original manual I received when I bought the RC did not have detailed inst. on adjustment. So I bugged Brown Mfg until I got what I needed.

If you have only grass to mow and will never hit anything larger or solid then don't worry about it. Most of us hit have hit something at one time or another that sheared a pin, slipped the clutch, or broke something.

Around here we are constantly hitting fireant mounds and they will shear the grade#2 x 1/2" diameter bolts on a very regualr basis which is why it was replaced with the slip clutch setup.

I adjust my slip clutch per the following:
1. back the tension off to a very low value.
2. put on my implement of destruction.
3. Let it slip for a few turns.
4. Tighten each of the 8 bolts one turn.
5. Let is slip again and repeat until it holds.
6. Tighten 1 1/2 turns.

Seems to work out well.

One thing to look at. How is the clutch attached to the gearbox input shaft? a key or bolt/ Are they intact?
