In my quest for tire repair... I have some slight tire bead damage and am wondering if the tire is still mountable/usable. The tire is a 16.9x24 R4 tire.

The outside of the bead face is fine. On the inside of the bead face, there are 2 cuts that are about 3/4" to 1" wide. The depth of the cut is about 1/2". The loose part of the bead cut has not come off the tire yet.

(I don't have pictures at the moment but will upload some).

Can some vulcanizing glue help to secure the flapping chunks? Is the tire still usable?

(At least I'm learning a lot!)

Thanks for any ideas!

If you can mount and air up yourself I would suggest lots of bead sealer and give it a try, a tube would also work just fine.

This will have a tube inside for liquid ballast.

Just get a can of Rema Special, put some glue on and spring clamp it for a bit. You can use it for regular patches as well. Maybe mark the area with chalk so you can be careful with tools when remounting the tire. Since it has a tube, it won't be as critical, and I'm not sure a tubeless application wouldn't seep a bit regardless.

Applied some vulcanizing glue to the loose chunks, clamped and let dry for 2 days. Hard to find the damaged area after gluing. Tire is mounted and holding well.

Thanks!
