Slasher?

Has anyone seen/made/thought of a PTO powered 4' or so line trimmer using wire rope for the line?

I thought about this over the weekend and wondered if you guys think it might work?

No, Chris, and since you're talking to a bunch of North Americans......you'll have to call it a shredder or "brush hog" or mowing deck or rotary cutter..... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I have seen some who modify their shredders with chains, of varying sizes and weights, in place of conventional blades. These chains are an issue though, the chances of broken chains and flying links are a big deal.

Cheers, joeinTX (I nearly moved to Austin before settling on Perth in Australia) and Pooh_Bear for your pointers.

Sounds like a winner to me. I only have 2.5 acres, but, as well as not wanting the place to look all overgrown, I want to keep the growing stuff short, to help during bushfire season.

I had considered brazing the ends of the wire rope, thereby fixing the individual strands together but not damaging them.

I imagine that a bigger deck, relative to the available PTO HP would be possible, as the mass, and therefore the rotational inertia is smaller. 900cc of pure-power 3-cyl Diesel only stretches so far /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Have you tested anything yet? I'm all up for innovation, but feel silly when I invent the wheel, only to discover it's been around a while...

I haven't had a chance to do anything with this idea yet.
I have at least 3 big projects going right now
and I don't want to start another one till I get these done.
But it's on my list of things to do this year.
