has any one used tire chains on skidsteers, with spring and mud season around the corner i was wondering if they would be a cheap alternative to tracks this is for personal use. i like to venture off the beaton path and havn't gotten stuck however could always use a little more traction. thanks glenn.

I'd like to know about this also since my SSL has an all wheel steer mode and would not be a good risk for regular steel tracks.

Separate wheel chains would be my only alternative.

The R4 tires I have load up pretty quickly in the currently all too common mud in our area (has it not rained for more than a week since fall 2002?).

Tire chains work great for ice and even compacted ground, but in mud they will not help very much. The problem with skidsteers and mud is that there is very little ground clearance and they are very heavy, and once you sink you are stuck. Tracks give you the floatation needed to keep you from sinking, tire chains do not. If you have 4 wheel steer, then tracks are not an option, maybe wider tires would help.

On ice tracks are about worthless, that's where the chains really come through.
