JD 1050
I own a JD 1050 about which I know nothing! My husband showed me how to run it before he died, but that is just about all I know. I use it on my dirt roads (I have a box blade), and to move dirt, etc., with the front end loader. I have not yet tried to use the shredder as I'm nervous about it.

Anyway, a young family member hooked up a new battery backwards,(my fault as much as his), so I had to get a new alternator. A regulator was suggested as it might be damaged also.

Here is my problem: the operator manual shows me the alternator, but I see no mention of a regulator. I am assuming I HAVE a regulator?? Confused!

Generally if you follow the wires from the alternator (generator) they will go to an aluminum box with fins on it about the size of a deck of cards. That is the regulator and it is probably mounted near the fuses.

I could see it being damaged by the battery issue, but I wouldn't suspect the alternator being damaged... but I couldn't say for sure.

Btw... welcome to the forum!

Well, I had it checked & it was damaged. The boys said it smoked when they hooked it up! So it was an expensive lesson, but one we won't need to repeat! Thanks for giving me a heads-up as to where the regulator is located
