But honestly, if the part that was resided after neighbors fire was spaced 7” already, i would have wanted the new stuff to match that. When you reside the garage, have it match the 7”. Or am i misunderstanding something.
That is the only bright side here. I will more than likely re-side the 10” reveal asbestos on the old part of the house when we install new windows. When I do it would have to be 7” to match the fire side.

The garage was sided 4 years ago. Hope I never have to put new siding on it.

Are you allowed to remove the old asbestos siding, or do you have to simply overlay it. Some places wont allow a person to remove it and haul off to dump.

They will allow it here in Tennessee. I just removed the whole side of the house to add the addition.

Well it is over and done. Got a $1500 discount and he jumped through a bunch of hoops to make sure I was happy with the product (other than the white elephant in the room).

It's all good. Live and learn. Could have been WAY worse of a screw up. It looks good and will look way better once it is all painted the same color and all trimmed out with nice wooden shutters I make.

Thank you for lending an ear and making me feel way better about the situation! Everyone was really kind with their comments, and I appreciate that!

My house was hardie planked 28 years ago. I installed it, i did not paint the edges. I did however caulk EVERY horizontal and vertical joint. House has only been painted 3 times, and still looks great. No de laminations anywheres. No breaking down anywheres. Maybe the product from the 90s was better than products from today.

It works better if its several feet above any surface that catches rain. I’ve seen by far the most problems when it’s on dormers or a chimney where it goes against a roof. The trim that goes with it is also garbage. They have PVC trim that’s way better but nobody wants to pay for that. The Miratec trim is glorified mdf and it delaminates bad. My Grandpas house has had asbestos siding on it since the 50s and it still looks perfect with no delaminating.

I have one spot up on the roof where the 2 roofs come together that I am really going to have to keep my eye on. It is pretty close to the shingles. At least the cut edges are painted now.(y)(y)

I made all my own trim with cedar. Window trim, corners, etc.

I didnt like their trim look.

None of my boards touch the ground.

Wait, did you really caulk the overlap joint? I don't think that is the intent with hardi. Verticals, and butt joints yes, horizontal, no, unless I either misunderstood you, or miss understood Mr James Hardi.

As for the part about painting 6 sides; you can get repainted hardi, but, to me, it's more of a primer.

I also think the older grey hardi board was better than the new yellowish hardi; like they reduced the amount of Portland cement in the recipe?

Really no siding should ever touch the ground, you should have the 4-6" or so of the slab exposed, then the termite metal, then the siding. If any siding runs all the way to the ground, you allow wiking, and a way for termites to move

Can you post a picture of the siding? I don’t understand the dimensions that are different. Is it the width of the boards?
