Well, I have to agree with the 10 minute or less rule too. I know my Dodge Cummins manual even goes so far as to recomend 1-6 minutes (depending on how hard your working it) of idle time after running to cool down. It also recomends avoiding periods of extended idling. (due to carbon build up) It is especially important if you are running a turbo unit to give it a cool down period so the cooler oil can cool those turbo charger bearings down a few degrees. I also normally let my tractor run at about 1200 RPM while performing other tasks for a couple minutes rather than shutting down. And just like someone else mentioned - it makes people think your just a workin' fool. That is especially important to get your wife thinking that's the case. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

I don't know about the dodges but the fords come with what they call an auxillary idle controller that you can program to change your idle speed every x minutes and you can program it to turn off after the turbo is cooled down. Pretty nice feature and avoids the hot turbo and carbon buildup that you talked about.

Unfortunatly the Dodges don't come with those features. (at least my old 2000 didn't) I know that you can buy a programable timer to shut it down after x minutes at genosgarage.com. I have thought about it a few times but elected not to spend the $$ on it. I just wait with the truck or let 'r run.
