shredder size for given HP?

I am looking at buying a tractor to do some commercial shreeding. Basically running an ad in the paper and mowing vacant lots, etc. I was thinking anywhere from 5-7 foot but am unsure what size tractor I need for these. I definitely don't want to be underpowered and have problems as I need to mow quick in order to make money but at the same time I don't want to spend any more money upfront on a tractor than I need too.

RULE OF THUMB: For heavy work, 5 PTO HP per every 12" of width of the cutter. So a 5' cutter would require 25pto HP.

In addition to what Bob said, make sure the tractor can lift the cutter you buy. A heavy-duty cutter weighs a LOT more than a light duty one does.

It is possible you could have enough PTO HP to run a heavy duty cutter, but not have enough tractor to handle one... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Henro, good point. When I have the FEL off, I slip 100# wheel weights on the FRONT wheels to hold the front end down.
