Well that cougar is still around. Wife saw it today about 1:30 but about 150 feet away. By the time she got me and I got out there is was nowhere to be seen. Think it is unusual for them to be out during the early afternoon. Called conservation and told them we see it again and we will shoot it. The main office is going to contact the local officer and hopefully they will deal with it. Wife is not impressed having it around, lucky we didn't have the goats out yet, our 5 young goats may be just too attractive for it to pass up.

Its probably going to stay around with those young goats making noise, a natural predator call.

I would use that noise to kill the cougar.

I would put the wife kids and dog in the car and send them down the road and tell them not to come back till dark.

You don't want any distractions.

Get your rifle and shooting rest and position in order, and then seperate one of the young goats from the flock out in the open, either in a small wire pen or just stake it out. And the rest should come natural like with time.

If I lived where you do with animals I would have two medium to large outside dogs .

If your dog was doing it's job no way would you being seeing cougars at rock throwing distance.

It don't take much of a dog to put a cougar on the run or up a tree.

Have fun --- J

You need a couple of Great Pyrenees around the place. They will take care of the cougar. A large male is over 100 pounds easy and they are very good dogs for stockmen. Very protective and fearless. I have a friend whose GP has been known to kill and disembowel coyotes that endangered his livestock. Very loyal and affectionate around children and family. They are just what you need. More eyes on the target.

We have the largest cougar populations per sq mile in North America. Our dog is a purebred lab; I would think the cougar was twice its size. A full grown cougar can weigh in the 150 pound range. The more I though about it I'm glad I didn't have my back to it and bending over picking up more firewood. The picture I got off the internet, sure looks similar to the one I saw.

Of the estimated 4000 cougars in Canada, 3500 live in BC. Of this, nearly a quarter reside on Vancouver Island (itself only representing 3% of BC's land area), resulting in the highest concentration of cougars in the world.

Thanks for the reply and picture. Looks like a scary animal to encounter on your property. Good luck in whatever you need to do to be safe.

there are rumours of cougar sightings in Ontario but no proof pictures. I tend to believe they are around.

This is no cougar (its a large bobcat ) that was caught on my tree camera in my upper meadow a hundred yards from the house. It would eat my dog for lunch. I figure it was following a doe and fawn I got on the camera a few days before (salt block location)
