When the battery failed after 8 full years of faithful service, corrosion on the positive cable bolt indicated it was also a good time to replace both cables. It was noted that the original battery had a 70 month warranty, but the best Autozone one has a 36 mo full/60 mo warranty. For some reason the nut at the starter solenoid was overtightened. While attaching the new cable, the threaded post broke off. It appears to be made of pure copper, and therefore fairly soft metal. A Michigan Iron parts guy informed me that Kioti does not list the solenoid as a separate part, meaning a new starter might have been in order. Removed starter, then 2 screws which completely separated the solenoid from the starter and wondered, "now why can't I buy just a solenoid?".
Put the solenoid in a vise and sawed the threaded post to half the thickness of the nut, then screwed the nut back on, and returned to Autozone for a GM battery post adapter as the threads at one end of that item are identical to the solenoid post. It was a little tricky finding the right spacing for the combination of the battery cable, a wire, a washer, and another nut. Recognizing how soft that nub of remaining post is, I tightened her up very cautiously...and it works.
Tractor is LB1914. Some disassembly of the left foot sheetmetal and part of the shroud around the instrument panel was necessary in order to get to the 2 bolts that hold the starter motor in place. Label on the starter reads Mando Machinery Corp D-850 T/R and the Kioti part #E5205-63012. Interestingly, stamped on the starter frame is the logo of Hyundai.
As I'd rather not put out $217 + shipping for a new starter, i would be interested in knowing if there is a source for just the solenoid.
