The worst part is a pick up will crush in a crash with that much weight. 80 foot stopping distance at 20 MPH with no trailer brakes? What would happen if they failed at 60MPH? That's too much weight for a pick up.

I saw my first 53 foot Van trailer yesterday being pulled by a tractor and 53' trailer. I have seen short trailer (pups) but not this. With just about every jackazz riding on someones bumper and our Canadian Winters, that can't work out well. I wonder if they take them off the road in the winter?

The Ausies, might well ask, where's the rest of the RIG?

Was listening to some trucker show on XM coming home last night. Between all the crazy rules, techology and rigs like that, it hardly seems right that drivers now make about 1.8 times what a waitress makes! FAR, down from the hey day of a lucrative trucking carreer.

Exactally!!!!

The tow/weight ratings are performance ratings, NOT safety ratings.
Higher weights CAN be towed/hauled safely if you use your head & don't try to drag race away from every traffic light & treat every trip like a road race.

Which raises another point. Does it make sense that a regular Class C license which somebody may have gotten in a Volkswagen Beetle mean that they are qualified to drive a 24,000 lb pickup/trailer combo? Maybe things have changed yet when I took driver's ed 45 years ago we never even got into towing small trailers.
