Why would you want to wrestle those sheets of particle board up on to that high rack and then the boards, lay the sheets in then boards on top just like he has a strap to just keep them in place.
I don't see anything wrong with that load.
There is a strap front and rear it's not going to blow out from traveling.
Is it going to stay if he rolls the truck, **** no, but who ties down for that.

what about coming through the back window and killing you,

Looks to have a back rack with expanded metal, I think it would be fine.

However from what I've seen,a lot of smaller utility trailers and their components are not really built to be loaded to their max day in and day out.

That has been my experience..so I apply it to all trailers....better safe than to have a component fail. Consider what road bounce(ie frost heaves) does as far as stressing things

That's not what I took from it, that trailer coupler appears to have been overloaded and failed.

I think that you could say that about almost anything manufactured to tow or be towed, except perhaps tractor trailers.

Exactly. You can buy a cheap angle iron frame trailer with tandem axles and basically a stamped sheet metal coupler rated at 7k, or get one with the heavy channel or tubing with a nice HD coupler. Both might be rated at 7K. One is made to work every day, the other for the occasional user. Either will handle the load, but the better trailer will handle it for years and can actually be safe at the maximum rating. And if you load it wrong, it probably won't develop a permanent twist or sag. There is a place for the economy trailers, just like there is a place for Harbor Freight tools and a place for Snap-on, and I have some of both in my box.

Came across this wreck. Guy was using a break over chain style weight distribution hitch. Couldn't tell if they used sway bars or not. There's a dip in the interstate on a corner about 400ft back. Figuring he got squirrelly and over corrected.

Tried to take a picture about 20 minutes ago on the way home...

Ford expedition "Towing" a vertical Air Compressor... maybe 7.5hp...

The reason I tried to take a picture is because the compressor was secured with rubber straps to a small wheel hand truck and the hand truck top handle was lashed to the bumper...

It actually was tracking well... even if the driver had no idea if it was even still in tow.

What got me is I clocked him at 25 mph which is amazing...

PS… no rear license plate on the Expedition.

I think the real danger would be if he had to panic stop and the lumber slid ahead, broke the rear window and hit him.

At least he had a good hitch that stayed together after all that...

I see 1 twisted up torsion bar there, so the WDH was probably hooked up. Strangely 1 safety chain & the electrical plug hanging there. Might have unhooked the electrics as a safety measure after the crash, but not the safety chain.
