I saw this on FB. What do you think about the boom in the bed? The boom obviously isn’t chained like it’s supposed to be but it can’t swing into traffic. His trailer is probably overloaded and his chain down angles probably aren’t good but putting that aside with do you guys think? IMG_1944.JPG

Except for the bad stuff, it's all good.

A 15 ton trailer and more intelligent chain positions would fix most of the problems. Finding a trailer long enough to fit them without doing that with the boom would be hard. Even if you had one it’s going to be heavy and hard to get around. I’m not sure what your turning radius would be with the boom like that or what DOT would say.

Would be better if the excavator was on the back with the boom positioned back over the dovetail.

Maybe he could rotated the boom and position it over the Skid Steer? I couldn't blow the pic up enough, but could only see one tied-down...is the Deere also tied down?

In my opinion, he should have just taken two trips and not taken the chance. It looks shady the way it is, but if it was just one piece of equipment (properly tied down), it would look fine. He is attracting bad attention, even if everything is technically kosher (which I highly doubt).

I don’t think the excavator has enough boom to do that but I could be wrong. I think he has one chain over the excavator blade and one chain on the back of the Deere. And they’re both at 90 degrease which is incorrect.

That’s my second biggest complaint with that setup vs a backhoe. The first is twice the $$. Being able to do it in one trip would be a huge time saver when you’re doing it everyday. You really need a 15 ton trailer to do that but that’s a lot easier than finding a heavier and longer trailer. His equipment definitely isn’t tied down right and his trailer definitely isn’t heavy enough and the truck will take the hitch weight but I doubt the hitches will. I don’t know why he backed the Deere on and pulled all the way forward. That’s not helping the hitch weight problem.
