At least he had a good hitch that stayed together after all that...

I see 1 twisted up torsion bar there, so the WDH was probably hooked up. Strangely 1 safety chain & the electrical plug hanging there. Might have unhooked the electrics as a safety measure after the crash, but not the safety chain.
And actually the 2nd torsion bar is laying on the ground under the tongue. Still cant see the 2nd safety chain though. Some chain at the back end of the mounted torsion bar maybe. But that could just be part of the WDH.

The other torsion bar is laying on the ground by the front corner of the camper. I was able to zoom in really good on my work phone to see it. Unfortunately work has the photo editor app locked out so I had to do the editing on my personal phone. Work phone has the better camera.

I couldn't make out any sway bars. If they failed to use them, then that's probably what caused the wreck. There's a big dip in the road on a corner about 400ft back from where he came to a stop at. I hit that spot with my F550 service truck later in the day, and it would have put me in the other lane if I wasn't paying attention.

Yup, without a doubt. Around here our VTI guys would be over that like a soup sandwich and rightfully so.
Hers a couple of pics that they've pulled over:
This was actually going down the road, how'd you like to get one of those puppies thru the windshield:

Local teenager was actually killed by a rock like that through the windshield, but they believe that it came from the duals of a passing truck.

Why would you want to wrestle those sheets of particle board up on to that high rack and then the boards, lay the sheets in then boards on top just like he has a strap to just keep them in place.
I don't see anything wrong with that load.
There is a strap front and rear it's not going to blow out from traveling.
Is it going to stay if he rolls the truck, **** no, but who ties down for that.

The only I see wrong is that the lumber is laid out too flat and and the middle ones have very little to no strap force on them which means there is no normal force from which friction is created to hold them in place.

What I was thinking. I try to stack them more vertically than horizontally.

Just hanging out way over the side at this point in time. Seemed to be moving around a bit. No tie down straps. No flags. It’s 12 foot lumber. I assume its a 6 foot bed at best. Wonder if it made it to the job site.

I hope there are no narrow lanes with bicyclists on the edge of the road where he is going. Around here they ride on the white line if there is a narrow (or no) shoulder.

Around here they ride in the middle of the lane or wherever they feel like; often two abreast. OTOH we are required by law to give bicycles and pedestrians 3 feet; at 55 mph that isn't very much space.
