So, I don't know what they were hauling wrong, but they must have been towing something heavy. And this was found on a chevy 1/2 ton, small v8, no trailer brakes, with a burnt and slipping clutch.

I bet they were trying to pull some thing that was stuck very bad or a tree. They had to be jerking on it to bend it like that.

You can't have anything loose in the back of your p/u here, never mind in a trailer. Fines, Fines, Fines! You can however, have a Cummins Block sitting loose under your vinyl tonneau cover though.
I wonder how you would haul a load of gravel

Covered.

Here in Virginia, any quarry product has to be covered. Forest or farm products, no. So I can haul a load of wood chips or a load of manure with no cover, but gravel or sand must be covered.

Oddly enough, when I haul horse manure for the garden, I don't seem to have a problem with tailgaters. Not sure why that is....

:D

It's really not a big deal for a pickup bed or trailer.

IMG_1507.JPG we haul thousands of bales a year with this set up. Only strap if we are crossing state highways. There is a stop on the back you set the bales against, and we have never had a problem just take your time.

Yes sir that will do it. I have had three or four old ones that look just like that.

This was in front of me today. I don't know how well this picture shows the issue; the come along was secured off of the hitch, at an angle, so that every time there was a bump big enough to bounce the truck on the trailer, the truck hopped a little bit more to the right.... No wheel straps, chains; just nothing but a come along attached to the rear. And there was nothing from keeping that truck from hopping off that trailer.
