Looking good Shade. It must be a lot drier where you are, no ruts /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif Where is the soil from the hole? Any idea when you'll start framing? That's when things really take off /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

The soil dug out for the basement is spread out around the basement so that the cement trucks could go around to pour all sides. They did not pump the concrete. The dirt will also be used to build up around the front sides of the house since we poured a little over 3' out of the ground. There will also be more dirt from the back side where the walkout is to come around front. I'm trying to keep the house & garage "high & dry".
The "I" joists should be delivered this afternoon for the main floor. They may start that initial phase of framing tomorrow. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif The drain plumbing was laid in the basement today. I may have another picture tonight.

Completion should be the end of June. Things are going along really well now. The 1st plumbing inspection was today & the basement floor should be poured on Monday. On Tuesday, the primary electric line will be buried.

Why don't they do this before the floor and walls go on??
I see why houses are so dear over there. That basement etc. is some major work. We just level the site, pour some very small edge beams (1'x1') and pour a 4" slab. Done !!!!

<font color=black>The builder would have poured the basement floor 1st if the plumbing inspection of drains could have been completed sooner. Either way, he says that much of the concrete will have to be handled through the walkout basement doors. He doesn't want to loose a day in order to save 2 hours. The builder started framing while waiting for the inspector. This small contractor with 3 full time crew members, 2 of which are his sons, do all of the work (and they don't mess around) except excavation, concrete, and HVAC. The GC is a certified electrictian while his oldest son is a certified plumber.

neil,some concrete guys like to pour the basement floor after the joists are on to keep the walls plumb ,if the concrete is still a little green. also the excavator likes the floor poured before they backfill the foundation so the bottom of the walls don't blow out. i've seen it happen. it ain't pretty......tgello

An interior drain system connected to a sump may be installed under the basement floor slab. Water that gets into the interior is pumped out by the sump pump. If the water table is high it also complicates the issue of building a septic system. An area with a high water table will not " perk '.

As suggested, the basement is located on a high point of the land above the water table with actually about 40" of poured wall above that in order to keep things high & dry. We will use fill dirt (like RobS) to build up to the garage floor level. There is a 4" perforated drainpipe outside the footer & 3" drains on the inside of the footers (under the floor) -both leading out away from the house. We put plastic sheeting down for the basement floor to be poured on to help keep water OUT (along with Radon). We have heard Pros & Cons about this practice. As said earlier, we are going to use some of the basement as finished living space, so keeping things dry is important.

OK I get the outside water drainage bit, but how do you get your sewer and grey water out of the basement?
I assume it drains to a sump and is then pumped out.
Going back to en earlier post, this basement arrangement is to get your footings below the frost line - Correct??
