Septic Tank Outlet Filter

So the wife comes in from the outside and asks why there is a septic smell out there. I grab my trusty bent rod and go check. Sure enough, the outlet filter is clogged again but my trusty bent rod failed me and the danged filter now lies at the bottom of the tank. I presume this is not a serious problem as my tank now is behaving like the millions of others out there with no outlet filter. I'll call septic dude Monday and arrange for a replacement as well as a replacement domed lid from the lawn mower incident last summer.

Am I right to assume this won't cause an issue over the next few days?

Depends on why the filter plugged in the first place. If the pluggage is because the sludge is up to the outlet then you would be running solids out to the field. If you just delayed your cleaning too long and the tank is not in need of pumping then you're right, it is just like the zillion other pre-filter setups.

The outlet filter is a fine idea so long as there is an overflow upstream of it other than a drain in the house. I leave the cleanout lid unthreaded so that a plugged filter will fill my yard with untreated sewage. Sounds like the cut dome was your overflow. A crappy yard beats a crappy house anyday.
