This is my first post on TBN. I've lurked on this site for many years picking up tips from people who have provided useful information on pricing and operating tractors. I'm presently in the position where I'd like to sell a compact utility tractor I bought new several years ago because my wife and I will be downsizing in the spring. I was wondering if any of you might have tips on where you might advertise to sell a tractor. Being an hour NW of Philadelphia, the local papers are more geared to people selling automobiles than farm equipment. I've seen listings on tractorhouse.com but they seem to be more from dealers than individual homeowners and selling a CUT outside of a reasonable driving distance seems to be an iffy proposition. Might any of you have any suggestions? I appreciate any advice you might have.

Craigslist would be my first choice. You'll find plenty of folks in your area interested in a CUT. Local Pennysaver or other local newspaper would be good too. Good luck.

Craigslist, hands down.
buyers will find it from a distance, because they will use CraigLook or Tempest which search lists from far away.
It free. Make sure to include glamour shots, nice lighting. If your phone doesn't ring, you priced it too high. Don't give it away. Be patient.

Yeah!! When a guy writes and says he'll take your tractor at the list price, and will send a truck over to pick it up? Ah.... the funds are fraudulent, of course. Nobody REALLY buys your stuff that way!!! :laughing::laughing:

I recently sold a tractor and finish mower on Craigslist. It was my first time buying or selling anything on Craigslist, and it was a good experience. I met a very nice couple and we had a good visit.
I'd recommend it.

Craigslist for sure but you might also consider Ebay. I've bought and sold numerous items on both and like each equally well. You'd be surprised at the amount of local interest Ebay generates despite it being nationwide advertising.
I typically add a default line of "item is for sale locally and auction can be ended at any time if sold locally".
The costs for Ebay can be minimal, if you sell via certain formats. And, you can post numerous photos enhancing your saleability.

Craigslist is very, very effective. It is the go to place. Local papers gets expensive and newspaper readership is at an all time low, and sinking fast. Most are costly as well.
With Craigs, you will get some emails that hit your spam filters, so you will have to check your junk folder. Yes, some will be con artists, but only a few. Some phone calls will also be mere "talkers" and not buyers. Still, it is the only way to go. Ebay/PayPal fees could easily reach a couple hundred dollars, so consider it more a last resort, should you feel it necessary.
First, contact a local dealer for a trade in price or ask here on the forum, the reasonable selling price, for your tractor, given the economy and it's condition. The biggest reason big ticket items do not move is that they are over priced. Weeks and weeks pass before some folks seem to get "real".

I used Tractor House....as they offer 1 free add. I had a couple of calls from people whom saw my add on Tractor House....but the sale resulted from Craigslist.
Still....I would do both. Neither will cost you a penny. :thumbsup:

I also used TractorHouse's free ad. It didn't perform, particularly.
Craig's sold mine, today, as a matter of fact. Fellow picked it up this morning. Cash. No problems. Great guy. I'll miss it.
