Securing tractor to trailer

Having trailered my tractor a few times I always run into a hassle securing the front axle with chains. I use the rear drawbar for securing the rear and run the chains around the axle in a way as to not skin all the paint off.
The front of my tractor (FarmTrac 270) has a 1/2" thick steel plate , part of the frame that has four holes that I assume are for a weight rack. I was wanting to weld a pintle hook to another plate and bolt it to the front plate. Then I would just run the chain through the pintle hook as the front attachment point. I figure it would also double as an easily accessible tow hook in case of getting mired in the mud.
Do you think this would work OK? I would weld the pintle hook on in a vertical orientation as opposed to the usual horizontal manner.

I bought 2 of these tie down hooks and welded them to the tractor loader frame. Now I slip the chains through these on the tractor and the larger ones on the trailer and secure with a ratchet binders.

Anything solidly fastened to the frame will be better than chaining the axle itself. I use a loop weled to a 3" chanel iron bolted to the front of my Two-cylinders.

I had a hole on each side of my frame that I put a short piece of 3/8" grade 70 chain and a grab hook. It is attached to the frame with a 3/8" menda -link through that hole. It is only 3 links long so it just hangs there when not in use. On the rear near the draw bar my tractor had 2 3/8" grab hooks welded from the factory for pulling, safety chains, ect.

Also keep in mind, it's not legal to use a chain from one side, through the loop, to the other side. DOT regulations (apply to ALL hauling, not just commercial) require a separate chain on each corner.

Chadoincolo while that is a good though I'm not sure it is correct for lower weight tractors (equipment) like most folks here at TBN have. At least that is what I remember. Someone more up todate than I perhaps can clear that point up!
