tact, Please school me, what does CHMSL stand for? I have a '99 ram 1500 and the only water leaks thus far has been the heater element. i'd like to be aware of any other possible locations.

As Randy said, center high-mounted stop light, the OWFISHAL term for the 3rd brake light.

Sorry nikdfish - the leak will never be completely fixed. The dealer certainly isn't interested in your problem; no money in that. Workers don't have a Rate Schedule for that repair. And they all are hoping that you'll just give up and live with it. Poor seal on one of the many seams, totally hidden from sight.

Don't feel lonely trying to solve your problems though. I've been through exactly the same problem with a Oldsmobile, a Opel, and a Buick. You do however, have my total sympathy.

Best wishes to your endeavor.

I guess after it warms up a little, I'll put a small bead of clear silicone around mine.

Use a brand called “Quad”. It sticks better, lasts longer and stays clear a bit longer.

When it was only a few years old I had persistent wet carpet behind the driver's door on my 1990 F250 supercab and hired a specialist to trace it. Turned out to be the short seam between the roof and the driver's a-pillar. This guy didn't work cheap so he also resealed the whole drip rail, just to be sure. That was when I became aware that the whole gutter is filled with seam sealer under the paint and it looks like they hired a beginner at the factory. I've looked at other similar trucks and they are all the same. Don't know if the current models are built the same way.

The 17-18 Super Duties had some problems with leaks, and if I recall right, so did a number of 2022's.

Why do we need a dummy light in the first place ?

The “dummy light” is called a 3rd brake light and was mandated in 1986 to be added to all cars and light trucks. It’s suppose to keep people from rear ending you.

Used the windshield sealer silicone to take care of a leaky back glass on my ranger.
It will flow into the voids and seal them.

I dropped off the truck this AM & went home in a loaner. Ended up picking it back up around 5. When their glass people started the window frame removal they found a crack in the frame near the drivers side corner & stopped work. The dealer has ordered a replacement window assembly & it should be in around the 8th or 9th (a bit more than a week). I picked up my truck rather than deal with the Tradesman Bighorn loaner (no comparison).

To be continued ...
