I would sooner leave a piece of equipment in a snow bank then out in the hot summer sun. I try and park in the shade whenever possible. A friend just armouralled my gator tires! Hope this wasn't a mistake. For starters, the dust stuck to them like shake and bake.

I think exposure to direct sunlight in warmer climates is harder on stuff than moisture. I've always heard that Armourall does not really provide significant UV protection but I don't know for sure.

Living in the Mojave at 3,500 MSL the heat and UV is horrendous. The good news is that pollution levels and humidity are virtually non existent. My previous RV trailer sat out for 15 years untreated and the roof and tires never showed any signs of deterioration. Of course I changed out the tires as they timed out.

My B7800 also sat out uncovered and the original seat lasted 7 years again untreated. The paint has faded but that's all.

I believe that pollution is the main culprit in the deterioration.

This may sound like a strange question. But has anybody ever seen fire retardent seat covers? I just freshened up my Gator with new plastic and OEM JD seats. I don't dare bring that thing close to a bon fire for fear of the embers.

My JD seat lasted about 2 years. It was fine until I saw what looked like mildew on it. Thought I should clean it and used a green scrubby pad. Big mistake. within a year seat was cracking. At over $300 to replace, WOW. Today it still looks like crap and when I have a few bucks laying around I'll replace it.

You can buy generic tractor seats for a lot less that will fit almost any model and will probably be better than what you had. You can probably even get them in JD yellow.

Sure can. I recently replaced my Yanmar seat with a generic one. Works great and was short $$. I had to extend the mounting rails to get it far enough back for me, but that was 2 scrap pieces of flat stock with 3 holes in each. Easy enough.

I bought my OEM seats and plastics from The Green Dealer. ShopGreenDealer - Parts for John Deere Lawn Tractors, John Deere Lawn & Garden Tractors, John Deere Mowers, John Deere Attachments, John Deere Accessories I got so confused with all the aftermarket seats, I thought, just get the OEM and be done with it. Not even our local JD dealer carry's the OEM seats, just aftermarket ones!

Confused? Really? All you need is a tape measure. Measure the distance between the bolts. Most of the universal seats have 5-6+ bolt patterns. I'm sure JD is among them. I was fortunate. My old Ford already had a replacement seat on it. I just bought another Tisco suspension seat just like it but in blue for $107 shipped to my door. I checked all the local places. Northern Tool didn't stock anything less than $300 and Tractor Supply only stocks the metal frying pan seats. Since I would have to order it anyway, I got it off Ebay.

Plasti Dip in a can. My Kioti CK30HSI (2007) seat split in three places. I tried a lot of repairs including the vinyl repair kit. All failed except the plasti dip. Apply at min 4 coats filling the hole/tear. Allow each to dry well. I did 24 hrs between applications. I did buy a spray can of the stuff and applied it over the area to smooth it all out and blend in. Works.
