I live in Mid Michigan and remember seeing a lot of old rusty farm equipment on farms while out driving around. Most of that farm equipment in now gone to the scrap yard. With the economy the way it is in Michigan many folks have to pinch pennies to get by. When the price of scrap metal peaked you would not believe the number of trucks lined up at the scrap yard selling that old farm equipment. Wish I could have had access to some of the old equipment but most of it was cut into smaller pieces so it would fit in the trucks.

It's like that here too. I almost cried when my neighbour sent a load off to the scrapyard last summer. He gave away two older combines. I could have had a ball with all the bits & pieces if I'd known they were available...

I did manage to get an engine out of a combine with little usage that will work in my 1965 JD 2010. I am keeping it as a spare in case mine has a major problem. The engines are interchangeable with some minor modifications. I also managed to pick up a three section drag and an old disk that has seen better days. Both will do anything I need. $125 for the engine and $150 each for the implements.

I am one of the guys you call to get paid to let me haul your stuff away. I will say if you bring someone in to haul your stuff get a reputable person to do it. I am bonded and honest. I won't let thiefs work for me. It has paid off in alot of business but I get called alot to clean up after the dishonest folks. People who pay 100 down and haul 1000 worth of steel and never return leave a mess ect.

You can make more money by seperating items and going to large yards. I am often asked how it is I can pay folks 130.00 for a honda accord that barely weighs a ton. It is because I know what every peice is worth and I strip those parts off and seperatet them into bins where I sell them tons at a time. While you may not want to do that you can still use the principal to make more money. If you don't want to do all that there are guys like me who will pay you almost as much for your scrap as you would get for unsorted/stripped scrap.

Good luck, I bought my tractor to help me catch up on scrap. We buy alot of farm scrap and it is alot easier to load it with a tractor or skid steer than winching it up.
