Anyone have any idea what this might score. I know nothing of scoring. I've been told maybe 150 class. Has to be 160 to make Ohio Big Buck club, and I don't think it will go that far. It has some small points that can't be seen it the pics. There are 10 on one side and 5 on the other, the inside spread is 15". Got him at 80yds with my TC Encore smokepole.

I don't know how to score a buck like that but next time you might want to think about leaving your deer blind out of your first picture. ;)

Nice buck, congratulations.

I wouldn't care if it made the record books or not because it would sure look good on my wall for the rest of my life.

Yes, he is going on the wall, right next to my 57lb shovelhead mount. I will end up having an expensive taxidermy bill this year. Better yet, I figure I will get atleast 12-15 quarts of canning meat out of this guy. Two beef bullion cubes to a quart...mmm good.

Not a bad idea. I'd have to convince my daughter that camo paint is prettier than pink though. :)

There are two scores. Typical and Non-Typical on the B&C system. Of the other systems out there, they all break it down into these two catagories, but B&C is the most prestigous. Since you shot it with a muzzleloader, the scoring is still the same, but the minimums are lower.

For a typical score, it's going to be very low because of deductions. They want a perfect buck and the extra points on that side with two main beams will be all deductions. I'd say there's about 50 points in deductions, which might give you a net score of under 100 points. Gross scrore in the 150 range might be there, that inside spread is killing you.

There are allot of websites that will show you how to score a buck, but it's really pretty simple. Just measure the widest pointe on the inside spread. Then for each side, measure the length of the main beam. Then where each tine, including eye guards, start on the main beam, measure their length. Then at the smallest point between each point, measure the thickness of the main beam.

Everything is done in eighths of an inch. So if you get half an inch, it's really 4/8's of an inch.

Add up all your numbers and you have your gross score. You won't be exact, but you'll be close enough to know if it's worth your time to enter him. Remember that the experts don't always agree on this and if it's a top ten animal in the Record Book, they have a group of experts measure it together to be sure because there is so much inconsistancy between the measureres. Where that point starts on the main beam is open for allot of interpatation.

It's a very impressive buck regardless of the score. One you should be very proud of!!!! Congratulations.

I know about B&C/P&Y classes. I was sure this would be scored as a non-typical, do you think otherwise? Ohio's buck club starts at 140 for typical and 160 for non-typical. I really don't care what it scores, just curious. I will wait the 60 day drying time and have someone score it officially. I have had a few estimate it at 150+ for non-typical. To give some scale, the first long point on the drop tine beam is 10".

Not that you want to spend this kind of money on top of your taxidermy bill, but you could use this.

Nice buck. And nice shot. I assume he was running at a dead sprint when you dropped him where he was at... what did you say it was 95 yards, hehe. Congratulations

Go to the Boone and Crockett web site, they have a scoring sheet you can use , fill it out and it will give you a "rough" estimate.

I think you would probably be a Non typican based on what appears to be an extra beam, if not, than a typical 8 piont is what it appears to be, like Eddie said, if it goes typical, that "cool" trash will be a deduction.

Either way its a cool rack and I would mount it just for the oddity factor.

I like your "blind" too alot warmer than mine, only question....I cant see how you ran the cord to power the spotlight..LOL Kidding ..nice deer

Id guess on the photos (doesnt mean much) Typical around 120-130, non-typical 140+

Still a good buck. That inside spread killed your numbers, but that third main beam is what brings it from just another buck, to a GOOD ONE!!!

Did you play around to figure out your typical score?

Where abouts in Eastern Ohio are you? I am a little far for you to drive to have me measure it but there should be B&C measurers in your area. Check the B&C site for a list of measurers or contact them. If Ohio has their own Big buck club contact them to see who scores in your area.

But if you really do want to drive I will score it for you but wait 60 days so it would be an official score. I score for NYSBBC, P&Y and B&C.

It is a nice buck though and I would be more worried about finding a spot on the wall to hang it. Congrats.
