Does anybody know much about the different grades and qualities of steel scaffolding?

I have a couple of complete sections, but need to get quite a bit more.

I am finding out that it is cheaper to buy steel scaffolding from St. Louis and having it shipped hundreds of miles north than it is to go and buy it from a couple of the local large scale rental shops in town. One of the places has several hundred sections and does very large volume. His used scaffolding is only $15 cheaper than brand new.

Are there other places I should be looking other than the classified ads and contractor supply houses? Am I missing something here?

Thanks

It probably depends on where you are at, but in most places anything sold as scaffolding passes a standards level that means its pretty safe. In other words, whether you buy at Home Depot, the rental place, or whatever, its good stuff (as long as its in good condition if used). Plus, rental places don't usually mess with junk, because it doesn't pay. So I would buy local, and used if I could.

Used scaffolding is really easy to sell, so it tends to be relatively expensive. $15 per section adds up, though.

Watch out for what you use for planks or whatever. Thats what'll kill ya.
