My buddy has a circle mill and a bandsaw mill. He got a few pine trees from a neighbor and we went to milling it up the other day. It's amazing what a sawmill, a bobcat and a couple hard working fellas can get done in short order. Looking forward to getting more mill time to get a stock pile going.

A close neighbor has a band saw mill. He has no tractor. Drags the big 'ol pine logs out with his Blazer. He has cut enough to build a small entry way building onto his camp trailer. He and his wife are in the process of cutting pine logs into lumber and building a small house.

He finally said I could help. He will fell, limb and cut the logs to length. I will bring them out with my tractor & grapple.

I have seen it operate. It's a pretty slick operation.

His wife will bake me a strawberry rhubarb pie. I'm getting the good end of this deal.

I like bandsaw mills, no kickback and fairly safe, a friend of mine says 'if it has big teeth it eats meat and that includes circular saws', those big round blades frighten me but the sawmills still use them.

Low horsepower, easy set up, mobile (many of them), low kerf loss, accurate sawing, fairly cheap entry...perfect machine for a small homestead.....what's NOT to love ?

Beautiful sawmills and products, guys!

I believe I'm the 7th generation to inherit this property in SC, and my forefathers were all shingle millers. We still have pine shingles laying around the barn and old home place built in the early 1900's (still standing). I love our trees, and Dad is a 'Master Tree Farmer'. Problem is, we love these trees, but hate to cut them down:laughing:

I can't get enough of our Eastern Hemlocks and Loblollies... My home is 100% yellow pine flooring, with White Pine interior, but not cut from the home place...

Great- now yet another hobby I'll have to research...:duh:
