when I give this tractor gas from an idle or I'm pulling a load it's real doggy and spits from the carb, not a backfire. We put the electronic ignition on it last year, but it still doesn't have the power it used to.Any ideas?

I would check to the following : Make sure the governer is working correctly. If it's not working correctly you may not be getting enough or any change in the throttle position when you put a load on the engine. It may be out of adjustment, also. Make sure your timing is at least close to where it needs to be (Did you reset it when you installed the elec ign?). Make sure your vacuum advance it working and there aren't any vacuum leaks. Without being more specific about the spitting from the carb it's tough to figure out what that is.

If you have not checked the vacum advance,I would start there. If that is okay then it sounds like a fuel delivery problem.
