I did something stupid and broke a yoke assembly. Anyone know where I can locate one? I've Goggled it and have sent several e-mails to various places. I know if it is out there the gents on this forum will know.

Thanks,
Michael

p.s. my stupid stunt was trying to do a little excavation on my barn site when the ground is frozen. My foot slipped off the clutch and the front wheels couldn't slip on the frozen clods. Snap:mad:

I found one!! Len at Sheaffer's had one $600.00. Everytime I get in a hurry or in a rush it ends up costing me. At least the tractor will be functional if we get snow this winter.

Like I said in my last post, I received the yoke from Sheaffer's. Now my problem is the part doesn't the bearings. The bearings are new and they fit the original yoke. Any suggestions?

thanks in advance,
Michael

Mit,
I had already spoke with Len when I posted. He is looking for me. I posted in the hope the someone smarter than I am had already faced/solved this situation. Trying to not reinvent the wheel when there is such an abundance of helpful guys on this forum.

Thanks,
Michael

Today I went to the bearing supply house that supplies the company I work for. I work for a silicon wafer manufacturer and 95% of our equipment is Japanese made so they are well versed in the metric bearing, seal and, gear realm. There is a SAE bearing that will fit the shaft but will not fit the housing. Since the bearings go into a housing using the induction heater at work isn't an option. He recommends sanding down the shaft to fit the bearings.

My buddy at a local machine shop said that it would be extremely difficult chuck up the yoke assembly. So tonight I'll break out the emery cloth.

i apologise ad18.did not know u spoke to shaefer.that emery cloth idea does not sound a like the right thing to do.you may get better results using a honeing tool with a drill.but i am no machineist.just a suggestion

Mit, no offense taken. Hope my reply did not sound that way. By hone and drill are you suggesting I make the bearings fit the shaft instead of making the shaft fit the bearings? That sounds good to me. I never considered that, thanks for the idea.

Success! I had to go to town, fifty miles round trip, to get a hone. Fifteen minutes of work and both bearings slipped on smoothly. Thank you Mit for the suggestion.
