RX7320 hole

Anyone know what this hole is for and should there be something in it? looks like a great way for dirt to get inside the tractor.

It might just be a plug in a threaded hole take it out and look......

Does it penetrate the gear case?
Or does it seem to stop before the casting seperation?
If so could be a dowel pin location.

If it goes into the trans case it may be where the vent tube goes.
