rpm\'s vs. raising speed

I have a IH 234, the question I have is this, when I'm running the finish mower at the rpm's to keep the PTO at 540,or I am using the box blade and have the tractor at a higher rpm and I go to adjustthe height it jumps so fast that it is hard to get it where you want it,dropping the attachment is no big deal,I just turn the adjustment to thespeed that I want, but raising is where I have the problem. Is there anything I can do or is this just the way it has to be.

Re: rpm\'s vs. raising speed

Why are you operating the tractor at such high RPM for BB use? It's not necessary really, and you'll get a better torque curve at a lower RPM. You don't really require high RPM as a rule to pull a BB. The faster you have the engine RPM, the faster the flow rate through the pump. Slow it down 3-400 RPM and see how it does. Of course, learning how to feather the hitch up is also an art that comes in handy working with any implement.
Now, don't get me wrong, you want the RPM to be sufficient to keep the tractor from really lugging down, but you don't need rated speed by any means.

Does it have a raise rate lever? Many of theCaseIH tractors from this era did.

Re: rpm\'s vs. raising speed

If I am not mistaken, there is a metering valve just in front of the seat to adjust the speed of the 3 pt. I think there are 2 valves, one turns the 3pt on/off and the other adjusts the flow. I believe it is the same set up as the IH 424 and 454, but I could be mistaken.

Also, if this has an external pump (on the side of the motor) there is an adjustment there as well, but you better have a guage to check the output pressure as that is more of a shop/dealer adjustment
Good luck.

That does ring some bells, but my poor old mind has forgotten so many things /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
