Hi Guys,

Just tried out the NH 852 round baler today. Made two nice bales and then just before the third one was almost ready to be tied the machine clog. I turned around to check of the warning device to "stop" was in place yet, it was not, but then I discovered the pick up tines were still turning but the apron chain was not. Then I smelled rubber and shut it down. The belt was slipping on the pulley that turns the apron.
So now we have a mess. Hay is really tight around the apron chain. It is going to be awful job to tear, pull or saw out all the hay.
Any suggestions? Cause and or cure?

Is there a simple way to release the pressure or reverse the apron manually? I have a operators manual but it doesn't have any trouble shooting help. Cannot open the tail gate either, I guess it needs the moving apron anyway to move the bail out of the back.

I'm not completely familiar with that model baler. However as for what could have caused this. You could have possibly got into some crop that the moisture content was too high. I don't know. Have you checked to see if a chain has come off and its in a bind maybe?

He's correct.
High moisture content - OR - very short, dry hay will clog a baler. (I've done it both ways :D )
Same thing happened to my cousin's Vermeer 605 the other day. Connecting link broke on the long chain. (the one that goes to the top roller)

One more thing that can cause it, on just about any round baler. Stretched or slick belts. Friend of mine had new belts put on his 12 year old baler this spring. He thinks he has a new baler. ;)

Always start at the end of a wind row. Trying to cut in at the middle of a wind row will clog a baler too if the row is real thick.

most times these balers clog is the floor chains is to loose or the pickup tines or weak but most times it because the floor chains is adjusted correctly they will bale anything

OK, thanks guys. Any suggestions for pulling out the clogged hay? Anyway to open the tail gate when baler is clogged with hay?
