Hi,

I was using fuel at such a rate that I over bought and will have at least 10 gallons and a full tank when I put the tractor to bed this year for the first time.

In Pittsburgh, the coldest I have ever seen it was around -20 F. But this is really rare. For the last few years I am not sure we went below 0 F. even once. Mabye we did, but not frequently. But -20 can happen too...if only for a couple nights.

I got some Shell Rotella RFA deisel fuel additive. It says 32 ounces is good for 100 gallons... which is about 1.6 oz per five gallons. I added about 3.5 oz per five gallons.

But I wonder...is 3.5 oz per five gallons too much? Too little? Or just right?

"Treats up to..." in my mind always means " use more than..."

How much should really be used per five gallons?

Anyone know?

Any input greatly appreciated! I want to be able to play.../w3tcompact/icons/hmm.gif ... I mean work in the snow if we get any...

My understanding is that it won't hurt it.

I did the same as you; added a generous helping to my fuel tank - more than what the label required. My guess is that the label guidelines are a minimum.

I also add it to the two diesel fuel containers I have.

My guess was:
More is better than not enough.
The dilution of the stuff is such a small ration, that the engine would experience no difference between 2 and 6 ounces (assuming a 5 gallon tank).
Therefore, using too little could certainly allow the fuel to gel, so why take a chance?
BTW
I’m in Butler,… where are you?

Hi Rogue,

I'm off I79 at Mt Nebo...

Tried to reply off line to the hotmail address in your profile, but it did not work...

I used about 5 oz per five gallons. I have a couple extra five gallon containers of fuel, as last time I went to the off road place, I bought too much...had got into the habit as I put 120 hours on my B2910 in the first two months, and I must have thought that was going to go on forever, regardless of weather changes or other things like promises to the wife /w3tcompact/icons/love.gif/w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif/w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

I've met the most Burgh people in this fourm than any other. Strange. I'm in Frazer Township (near Tarentum, off Rt. 28N)
