Okay, so I goofed up my first posting. Here's what I should have said. (Gordon: thanks for trying to straighten me out!)"
I have a B2710 that came with a 3 point rotary tiller. I have the universal joint attachment, but can't figure out how to attach it to the PTO. The tractoor came with two Lovejoy adapters (two sizes. One is a quick disconnedt that has slips over the splines on the PTO. The second is a shaft with the Lovejoy fitting. I simply have no idea how to use these fittings for the tiller, or if in fact they are what I ned to attach the tiller. My Great Uncle sold me the tractor, and may have neglected to supply all fittings. Any help would be greatly appreciated; my sparkling reputation with my family as a know-it-all is in jeopardy.

Thanks to all.

Well, the 2710 is Kubota, so bet the driveshaft is Metric. There should be a fitting that slips over the pto shaft and locks firmly in place (usually with a spring loaded pin located near the front). This is attached to a heavy duty U Joint that is attached to a telescoping shaft. The shaft comes apart, but the end of that one goes to another heavy duty U Joint that has a fitting that goes over the tiller gearbox shaft. It usually fastens one of three ways. 1) splined just like the pto 2) has a bolt (shear pin) that fastens it to the gearbox 3) has a slip clutch assembly that then bolts or clamps to the gearbox.

Look in the Tractor Supply catalog or go visit a local implement dealer and take a good look at the PTO shaft that comes with the tiller. You can buy one, but they are not cheap! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

If your U Joint is like mine, you have to push this little spring loaded pin in and hold it in (hard to do) until you shove the U Joint coupling onto the pto a couple of inches. It will jump back out and lock the coupling on the pto shaft.

Meant to say that most Tillers are made in Italy and have metric driveshafts and couplings. All PTO shafts are the same throughout the world.

Bird, I haven't gone through the last 2 days stuff yet to catch up ... but in case nobody else answered ... I'll take a stab at it from my warehousing days.
Lovejoy is a brand or model name name for a coupling (or coupling style) that is a favorite of millwrights - for it's ability to take some of the punishment that might break something downstream. They use them on pump shafts and the like (and PTO shafts) to couple two shafts together and provide some play. The ones I'm familiar with had a spider arrangement inside that meshed to provide power ... but would "uncouple" if there was a shock or too much backpressure.

too bad that common sense ain't

Thanks, Wingnut, I'm not familiar with that one.
